Most US Foundry solid manhole covers, (Round and Rectangular), can be made watertight. This application is ideal for preventing surface water infiltration, gas or steam tight up to 20 p.s.i.
Watertight castings are supplied with gaskets and fasteners. Users and specifiers should recognize that periodic inspection and maintenance should be implemented to ensure the castings are performing as intended. US Foundry offers two versions of our Bolted Watertight Applications. Both incorporate the following;
1. Precise drilling and tapping that assures interchangeability between like covers and easy alignment at installation.
2. Counterbored bolts keep cover top flush to reduce tripping hazard.
TYPE BWT
Castings are drilled and tapped 1/2 on ring and 1/2 on cover. See detail. Almost all Manhole Ring and Covers can accept this application. The benefit of this application is that the clear opening of castings are not reduced by bolting pads.
TYPE BWTL
Some standard castings have bolting lugs integrated on the ring with cored holes in the cover. This allows a variety of like covers to be interchanged. Clearance of ring opening will be reduced 1 1/2” at the bolting lugs.
